Hello and Welcome!

Hello and Welcome!

, by Jennifer Underwood, 4 min reading time

I have spent most of my life developing a passion, love, and obsession for finding, fixing, cleaning, upcycling, reusing, re-envisioning, using, and saving all the treasures I find. I am finally in a position to start offering these items to others all over the world.

My love for vintage and second-hand shopping started when I was about 5 years old.

My grandma and grandpa took me garage sales when I stayed with them as a kid where I found a beautiful dress to wear to a wedding, and a pair of silver drop coin dangly earrings that I remember vividly to this day, even though sadly, I outgrew the dress and I lost the earrings at some point in my life.

As a young kid, my parents took my sisters and I to car shows all over the United States.  I spent a lot of time looking at vintage cars, listening to oldies music, and seeing people dress in fashions from the 40's and 50's.  There was a certain old-timey feel to these shows where us kids played festival games, ate festival food, ran around with other kids without any fear, and spent time immersed in a wholesome atmosphere reminiscent of the time all of these people were paying tribute to with their beautifully restored cars.

In high school, I learned a lot about the value of money and how I used it when my parents gave me $50 the summer before school started to buy an outfit that I thought I was dying for.  I can still remember to this day looking at the rack in Sears with the $50 top and skirt set, along with 20 identical sets in multiple sizes and something clicked in my brain.  If I bought this set with my $50, I would be spending all of my money to buy the exact same outfit that hundreds of other girls were probably buying in Sears stores all over the world.  It was overly expensive, trendy, cookie-cutter, and seasonal. This started in me a realization that shiny trendy new clothes were pretty, but they were significantly more expensive, and often weren't anywhere near the quality of most items I found at vintage and thrift stores that had been made when demand and costs were lower, and manufacturing standards were higher.  And more importantly for me, they didn't allow me to show the individuality and fashion sense I was developing like the unique pieces I found in vintage and thrift stores.

In college, I found two amazing thrift stores on campus that further fueled my love of second-hand clothing, and started my obsession for vintage!  One was called Cheap Thrills (shout out to this store in Fayetteville, Arkansas that is still in business to this day), and the other was called Decades (unfortunately no longer in business but forever seared in my brain).  Decades was located in an old vacant multi-story movie theater, and the clothing was separated into, you guess it, vintage decades.  I learned a lot about specific styles and designs from each era from this store as I spent hours there combing through the beautiful vintage clothes.

Since then, I have spent much of my life looking at magazines, drooling over movie costumes, researching vintage fashions, perusing any thrift/antique/vintage/flea store I can find (the farthest were charity shops in Scotland), digging in dirty bins, and generally developing a passion, love, and obsession for finding, fixing, cleaning, upcycling, reusing, re-envisioning, using, and saving all the treasures I find.

I am finally in a position to start offering these items to others all over the world.  Thanks to the internet, I can find something that reminds someone of their grandmother who lived a hundred years ago thousands of miles away.  Or something someone owned in another country when they were a child.  Or the perfect dress, coat, shoes, earrings, candle holder, blanket, etc that fits the vision they have for a perfect outfit or to complete their home.

I've been doing it all my life, and it's what I want to spend the rest of my life doing.

Welcome to my online store, and to the rest of my treasure-hunting journey.

I love the stories that bring all of this together (as you can tell), so please email me or find me on social media if you find something you love, how you wore it, how you used it, your memories of it, or what it means to you!  And if you're looking for something specific, don't hesitate to put it on my Thrift Magic Manifestation List!  Just email me or reach out to me on Social Media!
